Good Samaritan Awards Dinner
 

The Annual Good Samaritan Awards Dinner serves as our major fundraising event of the year.  The awards are given to individuals in our community who exemplify the spirit of the biblical Good Samaritan in their everyday lives.  That is, someone who has demonstrated a desire to help others without any expectation of reward or recognition for their actions. 

People do not need to be Catholic to be nominated or to receive this award and do not have to be associated with Catholic Charities in any way.  A call for nominations is sent out to the community each year, typically in early September.  Then a committee of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors meets to select the honorees from all the nominations received.

Below is a summary of the Awards Dinners from recent years and the names of those folks who were honored:

15th Annual Good Samaritan Awards Dinner

Held Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Renaissance Resort Hotel

at World Golf Village.

Good Samaritan honorees for 2009:

  • Ms. Joan Clements   (Women's Refuge of St. Johns County)

  • Ms. Irene Greer   (Council on Aging)

  • Mr. Kevin Partel (Cathedral Parish Festival)

  • Ms. Ellen Walden (St. Johns County Social Services, Hastings Clinic)

 

14th Annual Good Samaritan Awards Dinner

Held Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Casa Monica Hotel, St. Augustine.

Good Samaritan honorees for 2008:

  • Dr. & Mrs. Bob & Anita LaCroix   (St. Anastasia parish)

  • Mr. Bill Lazar   (St. Johns Housing Partnership)

  • Mr. Joseph Murray   (Tree of Life)

  • Mr. David B. Shoar   (St. Johns County Sheriff)

In addition, Mr. John Myers was presented with the Bishop John J. Snyder "Faith in Action" Award in recognition of his many years of dedication and service to the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. 

 

13th Annual Good Samaritan Awards Dinner

Held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Casa Monica Hotel, St. Augustine.

Good Samaritan honorees for 2007:

  • Mr. & Mrs. John & Mary Lou Barger   (Community Hospice volunteers)

  • Mr. Mitch Heinz   (The Sandwich Mission)

  • Mr. & Mrs. Bob & Jan Wesselman   (Missionaries of the Poor)

  • Ms. Cynthia Williams   (youth advocate / volunteer) 

In addition, Rev. Seamus O'Flynn, retired pastor of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, was presented with the Bishop John J. Snyder "Faith in Action" Award in recognition of his many years of dedication and service to the people of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
